Sophomore Pittenger Scores Three TDs as Walnut Grove Tops Lake Ridge, 49–28
PROSPER, Texas — Sophomore running back Kade Pittenger scored three rushing touchdowns as Walnut Grove broke a 21–21 halftime tie and pulled away from Lake Ridge for a 49–28 season-opening victory Friday night.
The teams traded scores throughout the opening half, finishing the first quarter tied at 7 and reaching halftime even at 21.
Pittenger carried 10 times for 62 yards in his varsity appearance, with three of those carries ending in the end zone.
Walnut Grove took control after halftime, outscoring Lake Ridge 28–7 over the final two quarters. The Wildcats led 35–28 entering the fourth before scoring the game’s final 14 points.
Quarterback Ashton Gosselin completed 20 of 27 passes for 285 yards and two touchdowns without an interception. Walnut Grove finished with 504 yards of total offense, including 219 rushing and 285 passing.
Lake Ridge quarterback Deshawn Edwards completed 10 of 16 passes for 199 yards and two touchdowns and added 73 yards and a touchdown on the ground. The Eagles finished with 330 total yards.
The opener was also Senior Night at Walnut Grove, recognizing seniors from football, band and color guard, cheer, the Silver Elites dance team and student athletic trainers.
