Albert Accounts for Seven TDs as Prosper Outlasts Westlake, 49–40

Prosper 49, Westlake 40

PROSPER, Texas — Prosper answered every second-half challenge from Austin Westlake on Friday night, rallying from a nine-point deficit and holding on for a 49–40 Homecoming victory.

The game began after a lightning delay in hot, muggy conditions, with no rain accompanying the weather interruption. Prosper’s home side of the stadium was packed for Homecoming as the Eagles entered the night unbeaten.

Neither offense found the end zone in the first quarter. Westlake missed a field goal after Prosper’s Andryk Corona recorded a sack, while Prosper later lost a fumble after moving into Westlake territory.

The scoring accelerated in the second quarter.

Westlake struck first on a 3-yard rushing touchdown, then added another 5-yard score to take a 14–7 lead. Prosper answered both times through quarterback Tyler Albert, who threw touchdown passes of 17 and 8 yards.

Westlake closed the half with a 53-yard field goal, taking a 17–14 lead into the break.

The Chaparrals extended the margin early in the third quarter when Landon Thomas broke a 53-yard touchdown run, though the extra point was missed, leaving Westlake ahead 23–14.

Prosper then began its comeback.

Albert scored on a 32-yard run to cut the deficit to two, then connected on a 53-yard touchdown pass later in the quarter to give Prosper its first lead, 28–23.

Westlake opened the fourth with a 23-yard field goal, but Prosper answered with a 19-yard touchdown pass from Albert for a 35–26 advantage.

The margin never became comfortable.

Westlake responded with a 17-yard touchdown pass to pull within 35–33. Prosper recovered the ensuing onside kick and, moments later, Albert connected with Caiden Donathon for a 47-yard touchdown that restored a nine-point lead.

Westlake answered again, scoring on a 7-yard touchdown pass to make it 42–40 with just over two minutes remaining.

Another onside kick failed, giving Prosper possession near midfield. The Eagles moved into Westlake territory before Albert delivered the final blow, throwing a 32-yard touchdown pass with just over a minute left to push the lead to 49–40.

Westlake moved back into Prosper territory on its final possession but missed a field goal in the closing seconds. Prosper then took a knee to finish the win.

Albert accounted for all seven Prosper touchdowns, throwing six and rushing for another. A local report credited him with 447 total yards in the victory.

The game featured mistakes and missed opportunities on both sides. Prosper lost a first-quarter fumble, Westlake turned the ball over on a second-quarter fumble, and penalties extended or altered several drives.

Prosper improved to 3–0 with the victory.
