Mississippi State Stays Perfect With Two Wins at Globe Life Field

ARLINGTON, Texas — Mississippi State remained unbeaten through two games at the Amegy Bank College Baseball Series, defeating Arizona State 8–4 on Feb. 27 before overpowering Virginia Tech 15–8 the following day at Globe Life Field.

The two victories pushed Mississippi State from 9–0 to 11–0 and provided two distinctly different games during the multi-day college baseball event in Arlington.

Played beneath the closed roof at Globe Life Field, the series brought college baseball into the home of the Texas Rangers in late February. Strong crowds filled portions of the stadium during the games photographed by FOURGE Media, with pleasant weather outside providing an early taste of spring despite the calendar.

Mississippi State and Arizona State remained scoreless through four innings Friday before the Bulldogs broke through in the bottom of the fifth.

Bryce Chance singled home Blake Bevis for the game’s first run before Gehrig Frei, pinch hitting for Drew Wyers, drove a three-run home run to right field to give Mississippi State a 4–0 advantage.

Arizona State got one run back in the sixth, but Mississippi State answered immediately. Chone James drove in two with a single before Reed Stallman added an RBI single, extending the lead to 7–1. Aidan Teel’s solo home run in the eighth provided the Bulldogs’ final run.

Ryan McPherson controlled the game from the mound for Mississippi State, allowing four hits and one run across seven innings. He struck out five and earned the win to improve to 2–0.

Arizona State added two solo home runs in the ninth, but Mississippi State closed out the 8–4 victory and moved to 10–0.

A day later, the Bulldogs’ offense arrived much earlier.

Mississippi State scored once in the first inning and three times in the second against Virginia Tech. Teel drove in Bryce Chance before Ace Reese hit a two-run home run to right-center field, putting the Bulldogs ahead 4–0.

Virginia Tech narrowed the margin to 5–2 through six innings before Mississippi State broke the game open in the seventh.

The Bulldogs sent five runs across in the inning. James Nunnallee and Chance each drove in a run, Teel followed with a two-run single and Reese added a sacrifice fly, stretching Mississippi State’s advantage to 10–2.

Mississippi State continued adding to the lead in the eighth when Jacob Parker hit a three-run home run to right-center. Two more runs in the ninth gave the Bulldogs 15 runs on 15 hits.

Virginia Tech provided one final burst in the bottom of the ninth. Anderson French, Hudson Lutterman and Sam Gates hit three consecutive solo home runs, cutting the final margin to seven. Jack Gleason then entered for Mississippi State and struck out the next three batters to end the game.

Teel finished 3-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored, while Reese drove in three. Parker added three RBI with his eighth-inning home run. Tomas Valincius earned the win after allowing two runs on four hits over 5⅓ innings, striking out seven.

For FOURGE Media, the two games offered consecutive days of college baseball inside one of North Texas’ largest sports venues, with Mississippi State providing the common thread. The Bulldogs entered the weekend unbeaten and remained that way through both games photographed by FOURGE, first using a mid-game offensive surge against Arizona State and then producing 15 runs against Virginia Tech.

By Saturday evening, Mississippi State had improved to 11–0, with two more wins secured at Globe Life Field before the Amegy Bank College Baseball Series continued Sunday.
